Introduction

The aim of the course is, first and foremost, to gain an initial and general understanding of Plato’s philosophy. In this sense, some of the questions we should attempt to answer are:

  • Why is Plato considered one of the most important thinkers in philosophy?

  • What is the significant contribution he made to the history of philosophy?

  • Does this contribution have any relevance to the history of humanity? If so, what is it?

  • What does Eros mean for Plato?

  • What is special about the way Plato, a typical greek, conducts his philosophy?

  • Is it still worth to study Plato’s philosophy nowadays, considering that his way of thinking was very different from ours?
